Veteran righthanded starting pitchers 'Big Game' James Shields and Jered Weaver arrived via trade
With the team streaking on what would ultimately turn out to be an 8-1-1 run towards the Stretch Run portion of the schedule, GM Matt Veasey got back to wheeling and dealing, hoping to shore up the remaining areas of weakness for the roster. In mid-July, veteran shortstop Jimmy 'JRoll' Rollins, the team's starter at the position during the 2010 season, returned in a deal with Horsham that saw the A's send away a big package of Brock Holt, Chris Owings, Eugenio Suarez, Dalton Pompey & 2MiAL15.
Then just yesterday, on the eve of a 3-game road trip that would begin in rival Montreal, the A's brought in a pair of big-name, big reputation starting pitchers in "Big Game" James Shields and Jered Weaver in a trade with Georgia. The A's dealt away another huge player/prospect/picks package of Gerrit Cole, Nathan Eovaldi, Kyle Kendrick, Nick Gordon, Manuel Margot, Leonardo Molina & 1MiJO15 to acquire the two righthanders.
Veasey continues to work the phones at the Penn's Landing complex, with the trade deadline now about two weeks away.
