2nd baseman Chase Utley, Starting pitcher Tim Lincecum win top hitter, pitcher honors
The Philadelphia Athletics today announced that the winners of the organizational Jimmy Foxx Award as the top hitter and the Lefty Grove Award as the club's top pitcher are Chase Utley and Tim Lincecum. It is the 3rd time in the last 4 years that Utley has been honored with the Foxx Award, and the first Grove Award for Lincecum.
Going into the final days of the season, Chase leads all team regulars with a .292 batting average, a .411 on-base percentage, 96 runs scored, and 18 steals. His 30 homeruns is tied for 2nd on the team, and his 85 rbi are the 3rd highest total. In short, it's been another remarkeable all-around season of excellence for the A's 2nd baseman.
For the young righthander Lincecum, he takes home the team's top pitcher honors in just his 2nd season. Currently battling minor back pain which has apparently knocked him out of the final week of the regular season, Tim will nevertheless lead the team starting pitchers with 200 1/3 innings, 13 Wins, a 2.34 ERA, and a 1.02 WHIP. He also will break his own team record set last year for strikeouts with this year's 233 total.
