The Philadelphia Athletics announced that outfielder Jackson Chourio is the winner of the 2023 Lawrence 'Crash' Davis Award as the organization's top performing prospect.
Chourio is a 19-year-old from Venezuela who came to the club last October in a trade with Detroit that was part of the major organizational rebuilding process.
So far this season, Chourio has 16 homers, 68 RBIs, 62 runs scored, and 31 stolen bases over 87 games and 410 plate appearances. He is slashing .285/.344/.481 while playing as a teenager at the Double-A level in MiLB with Biloxi of the Southern League.
"Jackson was someone who our scouting department really liked when we were negotiating that deal last fall," said GM Matt Veasey. "He continued to make great strides at a young age this summer. Hopefully that development continues into next year. Who knows, there is a chance that he could be knocking on the door to helping our big-league club at some point in 2024."
Pitching prospects Jacob Misiorowski, Connor Phillips, and Anthony Solometo and catchers Ethan Salas and Dalton Rushing were among the others who were strongly considered for the honors. The Athletics organization saw a number of their top prospects begin the season battling injuries. But most returned and are turning in productive campaigns.
Chourio is the first outfielder since 2014, the eighth outfielder and 17th position player overall to take home the honors in the 26-year history of the award. He will be enshrined here in the History/Awards section of the franchise website along with other award honorees through club history.
