Standalone Transmission Controllers
For $650 and up TCI, MSD, FAST, CPP, B&M, ATI, HGM, all make standalone controllers for the 4l60e and 4l80e. Freaking insane prices if you ask me.
Using your existing(or junk yard) PCM as a standalone transmission controller.
93 and up 4l60e computer as transmission controller:
You will need various inputs in addition to the transmission connections to be able to effectively use the PCM to run the transmission.
VSS Vehicle Speed Sensor - PCM needs to know what speed the vehicle is going.
CTS Coolant Temperature Sensor - otherwise the computer won't lock up the TC
TPS Throttle Position Sensor - adapt to the shaft on your carb. You can make your own adapter, or buy one https://amzn.to/2ClFdTX
An RPM Signal - PCM needs to know that the engine is running:
No crank sensor on a TBI engine to let the PCM know that it's running
Find the Purple/White(could be different on different setups,it goes to the pickup/cam sensor) wire from the plug that used to plug into the distributor and lead to the PCM, connect that to the TACH position on the HEI distributor
Here is an example of how Matt attached his TPS to his carburetor:
Note: barrel.stl file is attached below, for printing your own. If anyone knows of a decently priced off the shelf solution that doesn't require access to a 3d printer, please let me know. Read his thread here: https://www.astrosafari.com/threads/matts-95-astro.130177/post-1485020
