Electrical

Eventually this page will have some information on common electrical issues with these vans.

Issues like the glove box light staying on, that corroded wire behind the battery, or that bad body ground that is causing all kinds of weird electrical gremlins, diagnose excessive parasitic draw on the battery, etc.

General Electrical Troubleshooting Tips:

  • Use vehicle specific diagrams - never assume! Use the FSM/Mitchell/Alldata/Shopkey/etc See: User/Service Manuals and Docs

  • Understand the system you are dealing with

  • Do a thorough visual inspection, look for wear marks

  • Have knowledge of and use the proper tools

  • Fix properly using 'best practices' and then VERIFY that it is indeed fixed.

  • Be careful when disturbing covers, seals, weather-pack connectors, grommets, etc as damaging these can lead to water intrusion/corrosion.

  • DON'T PUT HOLES IN WIRES, I know it's easier to use wire piercing probes, but the holes left will eventually lead to corrosion and no tape/sealant is going to last as long as the original insulation.
