I used art from the game 'Arkham Horror' as examples and colour definition.

Experiences, Tips & Tricks

• Spray priming can go wrong. I got a gritty surface.
• Flattening the primer afterwards is impossible.
• Removing the primer was a tedious job. I used St. Marc with pineapple, but it still took al lot of time. (I ordered Dettol for the next time it happens.)
• Due to the hard time the primer gave me, I did not remove it on all models. I wish I did as the rough surface is still visible after painting them. The result is that some surfaces look like 'soft cloth'.
• Trying to paint according to the YouTube video's (with shades and highlights) takes even more layers and thus much more time.
• Spending more time does not guarantee a better result.
• Large miniatures are 'easier' to paint because details are larger and shading consists of larger area's.
• Simply applying a wash for shading effect does not work. The wash should be applied only where the model needs it.
• Wash behaviour is dependant on the surface, and thus the amount of paint layers.
• The use of washes should be based on the surface colour.
• Highlights should be exaggerated as they become much less visible when the model in used in play (further away).
• Skin and faces are the most difficult to paint.
• Mould lines become better visible when the model is painted, so remove mould lines before you start.
• Make sure to check that the models fit their base before painting! Adjusting the pin afterwards is .... less effective.
• I used Bison Construction Glue to glue the models to their base. It works great without any damage to the paint.
• The Monster tokens have a very tight fit in the monster bases. Unfortunately I misplaced one and had a very hard time to get it out again. This damaged the monster token :(. Double check them before forcing them in the base.
• Do not use black for facial shading! Use brown for more realistic contrasts.

Maniacs

Used colours:

• Shirt: 104 Titanium White, 1x Brown wash, 1x Green Wash
• Pants: 450 Phthalo Blue
• Hair: 1x Raw Sienna, 1x Cadmium Orange Hue
• Axe: Liquitex Rex Oxide
• Wooden stick + buttons + Shoes: 690 Vandyke Brown
• Blood: 302 Scarlet Red.

For the Maniacs I have some special 'work in progress' pictures;

I did not completely follow the example art from Arkham Horror. In my opinion those colours are very dark and have too much brown. I decided to realise more contrasts by using less brown and lighten some colours up.

Colours I used on all investigators:

• Skin: 380 Skin Colour
• White: 104 Titanium White
• Black: 793 Black
• Base: Liquitex Neutral Grey Value 5
