Most people improve the sound of their hifi installation by purchasing more expensive components. When studying the divers knowledge bases, many professionals indicate that it often is better to invest in room acoustics. This concerns items to 'decorate' your room with either absorbing or diffusing materials. There are many discussions if either absorption or diffusion is better, but they all agree that you should work to limit the flat (clean) surfaces of the room in order to limit direct reflection. I had already build some absorbing panels years ago and I have built one again, this time measuring the room before and after placing the panels.
See Game room.
The used panels are fully absorptive and 7.5cm (3 inch) thick.

Overall I can definitely recommend to treat your walls with (absorbing) panels. Costs are limited and you gain time-domain improvements you can't even realise with buying more expensive HiFi equipment.
