D&D Castle Ravenloft

Intro

One of my latest purchases was Castle Ravenloft, my second game of the Dungeons and Dragons series. I liked the miniatures and decided to paint them. I did some additional tests with different primers, these can be found on the page regarding primers.

Experiences, Tips & Tricks

Priming is really important. I tried the Army Painters primer for the first time and I was very pleasantly surprised by the way it covered the model and the speed it dried with. Definitely worth the money.
Using primer in a good colour saves additional paint effort.
Use good brushes, this helps a lot in getting the desired result.
I used a new anti-shine finishing coat. Apparently I applied it to thick as it kept being sticky for months. The miniatures tend to stick together and pulling them loose from each other did damage the paint. After I applied another thin coat it did dry to a non-sticky surface. I cannot explain why this solves it but it did.
On a regular basis I forgot to note the used paint name ....

The photo below clearly shows the issues I had with the spray primer. The middle spider and ghoul were sprayed while the most left and most right were brush-primered.

Small White Zombie Dragon - Second Try

Didn't like the colouring. Placed the model in 'Dettol' for some days to remove the old paint and primer. Then gave it another try. Also used better primer (Army Painter).

Used colours

Primer: Army Painter Skeleton Bone

Skin/Fur: No addition to primer, highlights with titanium white

Armour: Liquitex Cadmium Red

Wounds: Liquitex Medium Magenta

Also used some sand for the base.

Skin/Fur: 568 Grass Green

Sticks & arm-stuffings: 601 Raw Sienna

Dress: 315 Crimson Red + 793 Black

Shoulders: 215 Lemon Yellow

Staff: 690 Vandyke Brown + 324 Vermillon

I tried three different painting methods.

Fire: 302 Scarlet + 150 Orange + 215 Lemon Yellow + 793 Black

Blue: 104 Titanium White + 360 Sky Blue

Shields: 676 Yellow Ochre (I think) and Liquitex Silver

I almost forgot to paint this one. Found it when making the photo's and painted it solo.
