Buchanan County

This page is a place for my thoughts on Buchanan County history. I worked at the Buchanan County Public Library for many years and was intimately involved in several projects concerning the history and genealogy of the people of Buchanan County, Virginia. Over time I hope to add some interesting content to this page from work that I did during that time period.

One of the projects I worked on was locating the final resting sites of as many Revolutionary, War of 1812 and Civil War veterans that I could find. I have assisted in ordering new headstones for veterans in all three conflicts. In Appalachia, most of these veterans grave sites are marked with only fieldstones and they do not have proper military markers. In addition, I have worked with Rodney Shortt, president of the Buchanan County Historical Society, on a project to map the final resting spots of Civil War veterans in SW Virginia.
