UNIV 2011 PHILIPPINES
Final Paper Presentation
Our Keynote Speaker was
MR. JESS "Guyito" ABRERA
(illustrator/cartoonist, Philippine Daily Inquirer, creator of the famous Carabao cartoon character "Guyito")
Mr. Abrera spoke clearly about how media ought to be used responsibly --freely-- so that the truth and good would come out.
In his talk, one could see the progression of Mr. Abrera from an important political cartoonist (70s up to 1986) to a staunch PRO-LIFE, PRO-FAMILY cartoonist...
...to his recent (current) initiative "Pinoy Nga" ("Filipino indeed") series which depicts clearly, on each drawing, an integrated "social picture" of Philippine society.
Mr. Abrera has had to exercise courage to be able to publish his pro-life, pro-family cartoons, despite disapprovals by editors...
