The Albia Junior High/High School Library will host a Scholastic Book Fair on Nov. 29 – Dec. 3 to promote literacy and help raise funds for the purchase of new library books.

The book fair will be open before and after school each day, from 8:00 to 8:20 a.m. and 3:30 – 4 p.m.  Thursday, December 1st is Family Night, when the book fair will be open from 5 – 7 p.m. and a special promotion will be held.  Anyone who purchases $5 or more on Family Night will be entered in a drawing for one of four $25 book fair gift certificates.  A wide range of books for young teens and adults will be featured at the book fair, including mystery and adventure novels, fantasy trilogies, sports guides, manga, and the latest bestsellers from more than 150 publishers. Parents, children, teachers, and the community are invited to attend.

The book fair will also participate in the One for Books program created by Scholastic Book Fairs.  Donations will be used to purchase books for the school library and to put books into the hands of children who can’t afford them. Scholastic Book Fairs matches the One for Books contributions with a donation of books to three non-profit organizations that help families in need: Kids in Distressed Situations, Inc., the Kids In Need Foundation, and the Marine Toys for Tots Foundation. Each year, Scholastic donates up to one million books through the program.

Area businesses interested in making a donation to the One for Books program are asked to contact Leann Seddon at 932-2161, extension 157 or leann.seddon@gpaea.k12.ia.us.
