- Project ASTRO, a program of the Astronomical Society of the Pacific, pairs Bay Area teachers in grades 4 - 9 with local amateur and professional astronomers, who commit to make at least four classroom visits. Teacher and astronomer partners train together at a 2-day summer workshop where they learn to do hands-on, inquiry-based astronomy activities from "The Universe at Your Fingertips." Deadline for applications is usually in May (see AANC calendar). Project Astro workshop is usually in August, at the San Mateo County Office of Education in Redwood City (see AANC Calendar). - Shingletown Star Party (SSP) held annually at the Shingletown Airport (4 miles east of Shingletown off of Hwy 44) over a weekend close to new moon between mid June and Mid July. Public Stargazing, a B-B-Q, and huge public star party is hosted by the Shingletown Activities Council on the Saturday afternoon and evening of the SSP!
