The Changing Brain

Mihika Reddy Kuchkulla

It was once common wisdom that the brain you were born with was the very brain you would die with, and the brain cells you had at birth were the maximum amount that could be possessed. It turns out that this is not true. Brains are tricky, adaptable organs and our minds have the incredible capacity to both alter the strength of connections among neurons, essentially rewiring them, and create entirely new pathways. This is known as neuroplasticity. Neuroplasticity allows our brains to reconfigure itself, making us neuroplastic in our ability to eventually recover and adapt.

Hi! I’m Mihika Reddy and the concept of neuroplasticity has fascinated me for longer than I can remember. Both my love of neuroscience and my curiosity, had driven me to choose this topic for my personal project.

For my personal project, I have filmed a documentary as my product to provide insight on how neuroplasticity rewires our brain and to what extent it is beneficial to us humans. I wanted to produce something that is both meaningful and will pique my audience's interest in the same way that it did mine. The 35-minute documentary was produced with my new found knowledge on neuroplasticity and it challenged me to push beyond my limits, communicate with a variety of people and learn new skills.

Through this process, I experienced highs and lows, have changed my perspective on this concept and have evolved as a learner. I invite you all to take a look at my presentation which shares my journey through this project.
