English and maths are mandatory aspects of apprenticeship courses. Apprentices who do not already have English and maths qualifications prior to starting their course may need to enrol on and achieve functional skills during their course. Your English and maths skills should also be stretched naturally in the vocational elements of the course such as by measuring, working with data or checking Spelling, Punctuation And Grammar (SPAG) in your assignments.
Digital skills are not included in apprenticeships as a qualification but are becoming increasingly essential as many aspects of your apprenticeship rely on having good digital skills such as working on Smart Assessor, Google Classroom and working remotely during the coronavirus pandemic. You may also need digital skills in your workplace even in job roles that historically did not require them.
