Languages
Year 8
Year 8 Languages is made up of three modules - one each of French, Spanish and Te Reo Māori.
The course is designed to develop the learners' understanding of Māori language and Tikanga, French language and culture and Spanish language and culture.
Course Focus
French
introduction to French - the focus is on pronunciation and a basic understanding of simple sentence structures
developing confidence in using everyday classroom French
developing familiarity with commonly used vocabulary
exploration of French culture through songs, structures in society and traditions.
completing tasks towards earning St Hilda’s French badges.
Spanish
introduction to Spanish - the focus is on pronunciation and a basic understanding of simple sentence structures
developing confidence in using everyday classroom Spanish
developing familiarity with commonly used vocabulary
exploration of Spanish culture through songs, structures in society and traditions.

Te Reo Māori
reinforcing and building on the language structures that were learned in Year 7
developing more advanced vocabulary
developing confidence in using common phrases outside of class
broadening the range of waiata, haka and karakia
completing tasks towards earning our St Hilda’s Te Reo badges
