Spanish

In Year 10 you can choose to study Te Reo, French or Spanish, or two languages. The demand for speakers of Te Reo in the workplace is increasing, and French and Spanish are languages that are widely spoken around the world. 

The aim of the Year 10 Spanish course is to enable learners to communicate in real-life situations and to equip them for travelling to a Spanish speaking country.  Language classes are interactive, providing plenty of opportunities for learners to practise and improve their skills. Learners are exposed to a wide range of different learning activities including digital learning, group learning and independent learning. 

There is the opportunity to extend their knowledge of both culture and language through working at their own pace on Languages Badges. 

Course focus

Some of the skills the student might learn are: 

• describing food and what we like to eat

• learning vocabulary about towns and creating our own weather forecast

• leisure activities 

• making plans with friends 

Over the year you will build a portfolio of work.

This course is a prerequisite for Year 11 Spanish.
