Integrated Studies and Literacy
Year 8
Integrated Studies is a combination of English and Social Studies at Curriculum Level Four. The curriculum strands are covered over two years in the junior school through a range of contexts.
Course focus
Within the context of New Zealand history, giving consideration to bi-cultural heritage in Aotearoa, the course explores:
culture, heritage and identity, and the history of St Hilda's
the causes of conflict and the effect that it has on individuals and groups
the development of entrepreneurial skills and business knowledge
the impact of innovation and exploration on our way of life
the study of influential change-makers that have shaped history
decisions and actions that impact on our environment
leadership and their consequences
Within these contexts, learners will learn the English and Social Science skills required to examine short texts, complete a novel study, write both creative and formal pieces, research information and create visual and oral presentations.
