At St Hilda's Collegiate we aim to support, enrich and challenge all our Year 9 students in their learning, as they transition between Primary or Intermediate, and Secondary School.
There are approximately 80 girls in the Year 9 cohort. One third of these students have completed Year 7 and 8 at St Hilda's, another third are new boarders, and the final third are new day girls. Each Year 9 girl has two buddies. This relationship begins at the Orientation Day, held in November of their Year 8 year. The buddy trio are in the same Whanaungatanga group, a bond that will continue for the next five years.
The focus in Year 9 is on developing connections and building a sense of belonging. We encourage our students to take positive risks with their learning, to be themselves and to be proud of what makes them unique. Students take classes in Health, Integrated Studies, Languages, Mathematics, Music, Performing Arts, Physical Education, Religious Education, Science, Technology, and Visual Art. Many students experience some of these subjects for the first time and find new passions and interests, both academic and extracurricular.
