Technology

In Year 8 this course consists of two main modules, Robotics and Textile Design. These contexts are combined to make a valuable, exciting and in-depth learning experience.

Technology at Year 8 provides students with the opportunity to design, test and develop their own technological outcomes in two unique contexts.

• In Robotics, they learn to design, build and program robots and enter the RoboCup competition.
• In Textile Design, they learn to design and create their own clothing accessories.

Across the two contexts, the students will develop transferable skills, such as research, problem solving, technical skills, and computational thinking.

This module builds on previous design knowledge and prepares students for the Year 9 Technology programme.

Course focus:

• develop programming skills through robotics
• learn how computers store, represent and manipulate data
• plan, design and build robots to meet the competition brief
• design and create a collection of clothing accessories using a variety of materials
• develop hand sketching and digital design skills
