Digital Media Design

Year 10 - Option

Digital Media Design introduces students to different areas of creative design for technology. Students will explore a range of digital media and coding tools to allow them to design and develop creative outcomes that combine both digital and physical elements.

Course Focus

The course will develop design thinking and problem-solving skills while building knowledge and skills relating to:

  • design principles and their application to web design and game design
  • development of skills in using digital layout and graphic tools for print and web
  • coding and programming for web sites and games
  • designing and coding 3-D virtual worlds
  • combining a range of materials and technologies (such as laser-cut materials, e-Textiles components and augmented reality) to create a unique outcome
  • computer science principles that are the foundation of our digital world

This course will be beneficial to students who are thinking of pursuing Digital Technologies, DVC, Art or Textiles as NCEA subjects or in the future.

Year 10 DVC, or Year 10 Digital Media Design or Art are prerequisites for NCEA Level 1 Design & Visual Communication or Level 1 Digital Technologies
