Science

Year 10 Science introduces students to a wide range of scientific concepts and ideas that will help them to develop a more in-depth understanding of the world around them. The content of this course provides a solid foundation for the study of the sciences in the senior school.

Course Focus

• Experimental Design – develop and carry out more complex investigations, including recognition of multiple variables
• Life on Earth – plants (photosynthesis, leaf structure and function), human body systems and genetics
• Physics Around You – force, motion and electricity
• Chemical Wonders – atomic structure, ion formation, ionic compounds, metals and non-metals and their properties, acids and bases and their reactions, pH and indicators
• Earth and Space – interactions between solar, lunar and Earth cycles and the effect of these on earth
