The children have worked incredibly hard throughout module one and module two and have made real strides in their development and progress to date.
Well-wishes
We are wishing Miss Matthews all the very best with the delivery of a new arrival. We wish Miss Matthews all the best and look forward to seeing baby and sharing the good news with you.
As an appreciation to the work of Miss Matthews, we will be having a spotlight on Deaf Awareness for the SEND newsletter.
What equipment supports the deaf community at school?
At school we use the special equipment called ‘Radio Aid’ and it can help the deaf community to understand and listen more clearly. You may have seen teachers use it all the time in lessons. The advantages is that it can help deaf students to hear more clearly and they can focus on their work but have you ever wondered what the downside is? The downside is that whatever a teacher forgets to mute, they can hear everything and this can be a problem but also it’s the same as shouting as well.
Top Tip
Whenever any student is reading a line from a book etc- give the radio aid to that student for reading- it will help the deaf person to hear better so that they can understand the words.
Hearing Impairment Specialist Provision News
To promote Deaf awareness week, our HI SRP students produced a powerpoint that was focused on Deaf Awareness to show staff and students what it is like to be Deaf. The slides were delivered through tutor time and feedback suggested it was very helpful when students reflected upon what it would be like living with this challenge.
