Keeping up to date with all the exciting things happening in English!
This module in English, our students have impressed us with their engagement with our texts!
Year 7 have been studying J.K. Rowling's Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone. Our young witches and wizards have enjoyed making inferences and using the text as a stimulus for creative writing.
Year 8 have been enjoying Lois Lowry's The Giver. This dystopian text has promoted some great discussions on society and its values.
Year 9 finished J.B. Priestley's An Inspector Calls and enjoyed the murder-mystery style play. They have also looked at 'Inflammatory Media' and have considered the way that media propaganda is used to manipulate us.
Year 10 have started their GCSE journey and have finished analysing Charles Dickens's A Christmas Carol.
Year 11 have been preparing for mock examinations and are getting ready for their GCSE examinations.
Year 11: Romeo and Juliet extract question planning and paragraph writing
Year 11s have been revising Romeo and Juliet and Animal Farm, following the Language and Literature mock exams and in some cases, team work has made the dream work!
Year 11s were challenged to plan a response to particular extracts and questions, and then write it - on the tables! These images demonstrate the processes the students went through, leading to some solid responses, that are sure to have helped their understanding of how to answer a Romeo and Juliet extract question effectively.
