In Year 7, students have been introduced to key Drama skills through the exploration of Greek Myths. In Module 2, Year 7 are practically exploring the key features of Pantomime - oh yes they are!
Year 8 students have been creating their own Silent Movies in Melodrama style in Module 1, following in the footsteps of Charlie Chaplin and enhancing their performances with the music of Scott Joplin! In Module 2, Year 8 have started to investigate the social issue of Peer Pressure and using the extracts from 'The Stones' to explore character relationships.
Year 9 has begun to develop their skills focusing on different practitioners and their unique styles, focusing in Steven Berkoff, Stanislavski and now Frantic Assembly.
Year 10 BTEC Performing Arts students have made a strong start to their 2-year course, studying the electric 'Everybody's Talking About Jamie' for their Component 1 coursework. Students have been experimenting in the different roles and responsibilities of theatre making, such as actors, directors and even costume designers!
Year 11 students are working hard to complete their 'Component 2: Developing Skills and Techniques for Performance' unit of their BTEC qualification. Module 2 saw the fantastic dress rehearsal of their performances of excerpts from John Godber's 'Teechers' (pictured above) which they performed to parents, staff and fellow students. Audience feedback was extremely positive and this set students up well for their final performances - well done Year 11!
At the end of Module 2, the Performing Arts department presented the 'Winter Showcase' on Thursday 12th December. This variety performance will included students from Year 7 - Year 13 showcasing their talents in Music and Drama. The 'Winter Showcase' was a fantastic evening enjoyed by all!
A reminder to all students that Drama club runs for all year groups on Thursday after school in DR1.02 with Miss Hudson & Mr. Dyer - everyone is welcome!
If you have any ideas for any other Performing Arts clubs i.e. Script Writing? Musical Theatre? Lighting or Costume Design? - if there are enough students interested, we are happy to run it.
