Site observations

Bimbisar Nagar, nestled in the bustling locality of Goregaon, stands as a testament to contemporary architectural ingenuity interwoven with a rich cultural heritage. This vibrant neighborhood, steeped in history, presents a fusion of modern urban living juxtaposed against remnants of its historical past.Bimbisar Nagar has different types of communities living together. There are many temples and mosques around and societies where people have been staying for too long.

Small rooms and and families living together makes it defficult for them to live.

The site also have many forces around which regulates and even shapes the spaces.

Bimbisar Nagar has a ground surrounded by various residential societies along with street mart at its boundaries and many stalls.

Bimbisar nagar has many MHADA societies that have refugees as residents.

The site is a ground which is occasionally used for functions and community services. apart from that it is used by children playing around and has a nursery school at the end of ground.

There are several spaces around buildings where people have built temples , community spaces , benches where people come out at evening and socialize, spaces with sheds , open kitchens , garages etc.

There are tailors , vendors etc that participate and use streets for business and different shops for local residents.

people have also used space inside and around the building in certain patterns like the lobbies are used to storage where all the furniture is kept outside and shared among the residents.

they use terrace for washing cloths and dry also front yard is used for parking as well as sitting space. These type of living patterns are seen generally at chawls or spaces where people live more as a community then indivisual.

Form development

Space around the site was light and a happening space where clusters of people sit together around shadowns and light thus the warmth and community experience was built.

The space had to provide certain programs that are used by people and helps in finding people their space easily.

In beginning the idea was to share open spaces by different programs and open spaces have some connectivity that keeps communication and visibility open.

As spaces starts to organize and placed there was a lack of pattern which was added by a grid rule .

Grids helped in communicating spaces with each other by repetition and connections.

Passages and gallis started to form and a character started to develop.

shadows and light spaces had more impact and resolution in formind the edges narrow passages about 1 m wide enables two people to walk simultaneously not so compact yet not so open.

as the dark alleys break down at the ends to open spaces and a gathering spaces that is shared by balwadi and nursery to form common space.

While composing the edges and walls materiality was also decided as it had to blend with the ground as well as with the site .

Wooden louvered windows and doors

exposed brick walls

RCC walls and columns with IPS floor finish and kota stone tiles .
