Grade 9
Entrepreneurship & Marketing 9
Students will learn the skills necessary to be a productive and contributing member of a successful business. These are primarily a project-based courses that allows students to explore topics such as business communication, social media and online technologies, finance, economics, Marketing and Entrepreneurship. Students will build their business and business technology skills with word processing, spreadsheet, database, presentation, and publishing software. This course also has a strong emphasis on touch-typing with the majority of students having a goal of 40 WPM by the end of the semester. Students in these classes also gain real life business experience as they are in charge of running The Hive Store (Stelly’s school store).
Entrepreneurship & Marketing 10 builds on the skills of Entrepreneurship & Marketing 9 offering students broader opportunities to expand and implement their business and entrepreneurial talents.
If taken in grade 9, this course satisfies the grade 9 applied design, skills and technology requirement.
If taken in grade 10, this course satisfies the grades 10-12 arts education/applied design, skills and technology graduation requirement.
Media Design 9
This is a survey course where students will have the opportunity to learn and use industry standard software. This includes (but is not limited to) image manipulation, video manipulation, 3-D animation, and audio production software. Students will have the opportunity to learn a variety of skills while using varying platforms.

Grade 10

Yearbook 10 (Desktop Publishing)
Yearbook is an exciting course that blends many curricular areas. The task of Yearbook is simple: create the school’s yearbook. To achieve this task students will have a chance to display their writing, design, photography, image manipulation, and planning skills.
This course is offered outside the regular time table.
Grade 11
Computer Science 11
This course uses video game design to teach the basics of computer science and computer programming. Computational thinking and boolean logic will be used to solve problems and visual programming languages will be used to introduce some of the concepts of object-oriented programming, including loops, data types, arrays, search algorithms, and graphic user interfaces (GUI).
Computer Science courses qualify as Mathematics courses for grades 11 and 12.
Media Design 11
Students continue work with image manipulation, video manipulation, 3-D animation, and audio production software. As students progress with their skills they will have the opportunity to explore self directed projects. Students will also have the chance to display their skills in a variety of projects for the school community. This could include video projects, marketing materials, or even DJ’ing for school events.

Yearbook 11 (Graphic Productions)
Yearbook is an exciting course that blends many curricular areas. The task of Yearbook is simple: create the school’s yearbook. To achieve this task students will have a chance to display their writing, design, photography, image manipulation, and planning skills.
This course is offered outside the regular time table.
Media Design - Adventure Filmmaking 11
Adventure Filmmaking advances the adventure with high-level cinematography, nature documentaries, and impactful environmental storytelling. Beyond filmmaking, students explore the environmental impact of their craft and connect with working out in nature. This course provides students the opportunity to work on a passion project film during the course that can be pulled from other courses or activities they participate in.
Grade 12
Computer Science 12
This course will build on the skills developed in the previous course and will focus on sorting algorithms, recursion, multi-dimensional arrays and game development theory. It will encourage the development of larger applications of your own design, sometimes requiring team planning and development. Students will also prepare for Computer Science contest papers and may experiment with different programming languages and environments (Java, Python, C, Visual Basic, Godot, Unity etc).
There is an option to also take Advanced Placement (AP) Computer Science A as part of this course. See a Counsellor for more information.
