Dear God,
Thank you for the beauty of the lovely Earth you have kindly created for us.
We thank you for the seas, oceans, skies, planets, Sun, moon and animals you have made for us.
We are grateful even though sometimes we might not show it.
We thank you Lord.
Amen
Amelia, St Joseph’s Class
I hope that you found this week's consultation meetings useful and, perhaps, got to meet your child's class teacher for the first time. Thank you for coming along, for our Year 6 senior prefects for providing a welcome and assistance where needed, and to the teachers for preparing and managing two evenings at the end of a school day.
I enjoyed sitting in on the meetings for our Year 6 pupils who had all prepared a presentation for their parents around their strengths, challenges and hopes for the future. You did a great job and it was lovely to hear about your determination to make improvements and strive for great things in the future.
We also welcomed some prospective parents to our school this week as tours began for those looking for Reception places next September. Please do spread the word if you know of people with children that age or, indeed, current Reception age, where we have quite a few spaces.
Thank you for your kind donations of Advent calendars. Along with some of our Mini Vinnies, we carried around a hundred along to Lee in the local Tesco. He epitomises a spirit of care and giving that we want to emulate and we are happy to support his wonderful efforts in Love One Another month. I believe that we are the only school to support that particular cause this year and he was very grateful.
When the weather eventually relents and you get the chance to get into the garden or shed, we are still looking for donations for our playtimes if there is anything that you can help use with: scooters, prams, buggies and dolls.
We are already gearing up for our Christmas Fayre on Sunday 7th December and I know that the new FOSH team would be very appreciative of any help that you can offer, as well as your support for the event on the day.
I will send a letter out about this in the coming week for parents who may not see the newsletter but an early notification that the school term will end at lunchtime, 1pm, on Friday 19th December.
Thank you and have a good week.

Love One Another Month
Today some of our Mini Vinnies delivered advent calendars to Lee in Tesco for his Advent Calendar Appeal, as part of our school spreading kindness to the local community
Sacred Heart School Council democratically elected in each class for 2025-2026. They hope to work together with Miss Dugdale to make positive changes for our school.
St Peter's class shared their assembly today with us and retold the bible story of Jesus in the temple and when he became frustrated with others and how he is the temple of God. The pupils reinforced this message of love and that the Holy Spirit is with us in church, school and always.
Year 6 have immersed themselves in the story of Jumanji this week, to support their creative writing.
Our Art & Craft club have created these beautiful posters in our atrium to remind us to be kind to everyone.
Odd Sock Day at Sacred Heart! ✨🧦
Earlier this week our school community came together in a colourful celebration of individuality and kindness for Odd Sock Day 2025! 🎉 Pupils and staff proudly wore their brightest, boldest, and most mismatched socks to show that it's okay to be different.
As part of Anti-Bullying Week, our KS2 pupils also took part in a powerful assembly focused on respect, empathy, and standing up against bullying. 💙
Together, we’re making a stand for kindness, inclusion, and celebrating what makes each of us unique.
Boys football competition.
The boys team competed in a tournament last Friday playing a total of 12 different schools. The team played fantastically well, recording 5 wins, 6 draws and only 1 defeat against the eventual champions. Well done to all the players for making such a big effort to help the team finish in fourth place.
EYFS pupils visited the church and learnt about baptism with Father Graham.
Southend Remembrance Day was service lead by Father Graham and with members of our school community participating, staff and pupils.
WE SHALL REMEMBER THEM
Dear Parents and Carers,
My name is Dori Calik, and I would like to introduce myself as the new Chair of Friends of Sacred Heart (FOSH), parent-run charity supporting SHS. Alongside me is Frankie Chilton, our new Vice Chair, and a small group of dedicated committee members.
Following the recent resignation of the previous committee, the new FOSH team was formally appointed at the Annual General Meeting (AGM) held on 2nd October. Our shared goal is to continue the valuable work of supporting and enriching our school community - be it events, fundraising, and working alongside school staff and families.
Our first project together will be the School Christmas Fayre, a much-loved event that brings our community together to celebrate the festive season.
To make the fayre a success, we are looking for volunteers to help in a variety of ways — from planning and organising to setting up, running stalls, or tidying away afterwards.
We completely understand that time is precious, so our aim is to divide tasks into small, manageable roles to make it easy for everyone to get involved. Every bit of help, no matter how small, makes a real difference.
If you are interested in helping with the Christmas Fayre or getting involved with FOSH in general, please leave your name and contact details at the school reception, and one of us will be in touch soon. Or if you have a business and would like a stall at the fayre, again please leave contact details.
Thank you for your continued support. We are very excited to get started and look forward to working together to make this year’s events enjoyable and successful for the whole school community.
Kind regards,
Dori Calik Chair, Friends of Sacred Heart (FOSH) and Frankie Chilton, Vice Chair
The winter flu immunisation will be available to all children in school on the 18th November. Please see the information below. Families should click on the link and complete the form even if they DON’T want their child to be vaccinated. https://eastanglia.schoolvaccination.uk/flu/2025/essex
We have not made changes to our chargeable fees for some time at Sacred Heart, and we have even subsidised some charges for out of school clubs. However as everyone is aware costs have increased in recent years across the board.
Therefore, from September 2025 the following new charges will apply:
Dear Parents and Carers,
We wanted to send a reminder to all our families of the uniform requirements from September 2025. We would like to draw special attention to:
• Hair styles - must not be extreme
• Earrings - no earrings of any kind. If you wish to get your child's ears pierced, the must be done at the beginning of the holidays to allow sufficient time to heal before returning to school.
• Shoes - must be sensible and sturdy - no trainers
• Boots - only to be worn to and from school - need to change to shoes in school
Please read the attached document for full information on all uniform requirements.
There will be a PRE-LOVED UNIFORM EVENT at the beginning of September, so please look out for this.
We would also like to remind everyone that all items in school must be clearly labelled, and the school will not accept responsibility for lost items.
Please help us to be 'The smartest school in town' and support us in ensuring the children are wearing the correct uniform, are fully prepared and ready to learn.
Kind regards,
School Office.
In line with other schools we will be introducing a new policy where by any children not collected from school by 3.30pm will be placed in our after school tea club and a £6 fee will be applied to your School Money account.
We have seen an increase in the number of children not collected on time and we hope the new charges will ensure children are collected promptly.
Our Amazon Wishlist is live!! The idea is that friends and family of the school can donate directly to the school library. We’ll still accept preloved copies from home that you may also wish to donate. The selection of books are chosen by the staff as texts that may benefit the pupil's reading comprehension, engagement with the curriculum and foster an interest in reading. The current list is reflective of this and will update as and when donations come through. The link to our Wishlist is here.
A big thank you to those that have bought books for the school, we truly appreciate it.
PUPIL ABSENCE
When a child is off sick, a phone call must be made daily to record their absence. For sickness and diarrhea, the school has a 48 hours policy from the last episode before a child can return to school.
Any medical appointments need proof of the appointment for our records.
For any other absences a leave of absence form must be completed which can be obtained from the office.
LOST PROPERTY
Please can all parents check their child’s clothes - All items should be clearly labelled and your child needs to ensure they can identify their own property. Lost Property with no name is regualry sorted and either given to the pre-loved sale or taken to a local charity shop.
Thank you for your co-operation.
We would like to remind all our families using breakfast club of the importance of booking in advance. We have noticed an increase of children not booking in advance and this effects our staffing ratio.
All bookings must be made at the beginning of each week so we can ensure we have enough staff available. Priority will be given to children who have booked in advance and those who have not booked may not be able to stay.
If you need assistance making a booking please email annemariedriscoll@sacredheart.southend.sch.uk
Thank you to everyone who attended the Autumn ISP meetings and parent meetings—we really appreciate your time and input. Please remember to add your comments on the Provision Map website, as this helps us keep everything up to date and ensures your child’s support is clearly documented.
During the meetings, many conversations focused on children experiencing sensory overload. We’d like to share a helpful resource with you, the Sensory Toolkit, which offers practical strategies for supporting children with sensory difficulties. It’s a wonderful tool for both home and school.
Thank you for your continued support!
Best Regards
