Dear God
Our God, thank you for giving me strength, love and respect.
Thank you for a home and food. Thank you for clothes.
When I was sad, you gave me happiness and lovely friends. I appreciate everything. We can always turn to him whenever we need him.
We give thanks to you.
Amen
Andrei, Mary Mother of God
Thankyou to the members of the choir who attended the Young Voices concert at the O2 on Monday. By all accounts, they were a great credit to Sacred Heart, both in their behaviour and their singing. Many thanks for the parents who were able to attend and especially to Mrs Elvidge and staff who spent a long, if very enjoyable, day with the children. With the benefit of having Mrs Elvidge as a Music teacher with no class of her own, she is taking our music to new heights, developing the use of instrumentation and the quality of our class lessons.
We truly value a broad and rich curriculum and will always find a place for sport and the arts as we review what we provide. Currently, we are starting to look again at how all of the subjects fit in our week and how we maximise what the children learn and remember through engaging lessons.
Playtimes are also a very important part of the school week, maybe the most important for the children, and we will be looking to develop an outdoor play plan in the coming weeks. We have designers coming to visit after half term and, together with the School Council, we will begin to establish a long-term plan. At this afternoon's extra assembly for Number Day, all of the children were introduced to the idea and asked to think about ideas for the plan. We also reminded children of the connection between Number Day and the NSPCC and how that charity is always there for children and families in need.
I hope that you have a good weekend together and that the weather feels a little less wintry than it is at present.
God Bless
Mr Beazeley

Our Amazon Wishlist is live!! The idea is that friends and family of the school can donate directly to the school library. We’ll still accept preloved copies from home that you may also wish to donate. The selection of books are chosen by the staff as texts that may benefit the pupil's reading comprehension, engagement with the curriculum and foster an interest in reading. The current list is reflective of this and will update as and when donations come through. The link to our Wishlist is here.
A big thank you to those that have bought books for the school, we truly appreciate it.
Here are our stars of the week who have represented our core values well through their actions of responsibility, achievement, compassion, equality, faith and respect
St Patrick class shared their assembly today with the school and parents. They shared the story of Jesus being presented at the temple, Luke 2:22-40. This teaches us that sometimes we have to wait for great things and that Jesus is the light that leads us to joy. That prayer leads us to strengthen our faith.
Year 6 enjoyed an immersive WWII experience from learning about different types of bombs used in the war to becoming medics and bandaging each other up.
Here are some photos of the choir arriving at Young Voices, and getting warmed up for the performance.
Hot Chocolate Friday - We celebrate pupils and staff that are superstars in all aspects of their school life.
Our Lady of Lourdes and St Bernadette's classes have been exploring their taste buds with food tasting. They have also explored other senses of sight, smell, touch and hearing through a series of table activities. They finished their science topic with a sensory walk around the school. They have learnt about the story of Jesus being a fisherman of men as his followers chose to become disciples upon hearing his good news.
PUPIL ABSENCE
When a child is off sick, a phone call must be made daily to record their absence. For sickness and diarrhea, the school has a 48 hours policy from the last episode before a child can return to school.
Any medical appointments need proof of the appointment for our records.
For any other absences a leave of absence form must be completed which can be obtained from the office.
SPARE SWIMMING KITS
We urgently need spare boys swimming trunks aged 10 and above for swimming lessons plus spare towels. If anyone has anything they could donate to the school we would be most grateful.
We are also short on spare underwear for older children. Any donations can be brought to the office. Thank you for your support
COAT REMINDER – Please remember as the weather is changing to make sure your child has a coat with them and that it is clearly labelled. It is much colder today and some children came in without coats on, and were complaining they were cold in the playground.
LOST PROPERTY
Please can all parents check their child’s clothes - All items should be clearly labelled and your child needs to ensure they can identify their own property. Staff are wasting too much time searching for children’s clothing and dealing with frustrated parents.
Thank you for your co-operation.
Dear Parents/Carers
Please ensure your child is bringing in a healthy snack each day. They should NOT have chocolate, cakes or crisps, although baked savoury snacks are acceptable.
We are a Healthy School and must ensure all children are following the guidelines. Snacks must also NOT contain nuts or any type of nutty spread like Nutella or praline etc. as we are a nut free school.
Thank you for your continued support with this matter.
We would like to remind all our families using breakfast club of the importance of booking in advance. We have noticed an increase of children not booking in advance and this effects our staffing ratio.
Breakfast club (£3 per session) runs from 7:30 until the start of school and includes a light breakfast and childcare.
We also run a tea club (£6 per session) from 3:15-5:30pm which includes a light tea and childcare - again all bookings must be booked and paid for in advance. Failure to pay will result in the child not being able to attend future sessions.
All bookings must be made at the beginning of each week so we can ensure we have enough staff available. Priority will be given to children who have booked in advance and those who have not booked may not be able to stay.
If you need assistance making a booking please email annemariedriscoll@sacredheart.southend.sch.uk
We would like to remind all our families that we are a nut free school to protect some of our pupils/staff and therefore request that no items of food containing nuts are brought in. We have noticed an increasing number of children bringing in snacks and spreads containing nuts ie cereal bars, chocolate spread etc. We hope you all understand the importance that some of our community have epi pens for their allergies and we need to ensure their safety at all times. Thank you for your co-operation.
