This week was a busy week as we get fully into the swing of the last 6 weeks of term, with lots of events planned, this week saw pupils participate in the last My Future My Southend event looking at jobs in the 'Great Catch!' sector, have the children shared with you who they heard from? We work hard in school to try and inform and inspire pupils about a wide variety of careers they could pursue and what qualities are needed to be successful in these areas. Linked to this we have some exciting projects lined up for our older pupils in the coming weeks and months, including a workshop with local employees. If you think you could support this venture then please see our social media post for details and who to contact. We also enjoyed sporting success at Borough Sports with a 3rd place on the track with some amazingly quick performances. Please see our social media Instagram and Facebook for all the latest events and news.
In June we see the end of Eastertide and the beginning of a month full of joyful feast days in the Church. Dedicated to the Sacred Heart of Jesus, June presents us all with the opportunity to reflect on the amazing love and mercy of Jesus Christ, displayed through His death and Resurrection. We have been talking with pupils about the wonderful gifts that the Holy Spirit shares with us this week in our Prayer and Liturgy. Please talk about some of the fruits of the Spirit from Galatians 5:22-23, and discuss how you and your family might grow in these gifts through your thoughts, words and actions. We are busy preparing for our Feast Day mass on Friday 27th June when all families and parishioners are invited us to celebrate Mass for the Feast of Sacred Heart of Jesus with us and then in the afternoon we will be having also be inviting parents in to watch dances that pupils and teachers have been preparing to celebrate this special day. We also think at this time of our pupils who are preparing for their First Holy Communion next weekend and keep them in our prayers.
Please take time to look at the diary dates below and make a note of any relevant to you and your child so you don't miss out on special events in your child's journey with us. I would like to take this opportunity to thank all the staff for their continued hard work in all aspects of school life as they make the curriculum as fun and engaging as they can for pupils and cease every opportunity we are offered as a school. This evening we look forwarding to our Year 5 pupils singing at SEESMA festival at Cliffs Pavilion, if their rehearsals are anything to go by it will be a delightful evening for all to enjoy.
I hope you have an enjoyable weekend

Here is our new Summer Term dinner menu, which is now in effect.
In line with other schools we will be introducing a new policy where by any children not collected from school by 3.30pm will be placed in our after school tea club and a £6 fee will be applied to your School Money account.
We have seen an increase in the number of children not collected on time and we hope the new charges will ensure children are collected promptly.
Our Amazon Wishlist is live!! The idea is that friends and family of the school can donate directly to the school library. We’ll still accept preloved copies from home that you may also wish to donate. The selection of books are chosen by the staff as texts that may benefit the pupil's reading comprehension, engagement with the curriculum and foster an interest in reading. The current list is reflective of this and will update as and when donations come through. The link to our Wishlist is here.
A big thank you to those that have bought books for the school, we truly appreciate it.
Another year and another trophy at Borough Sports. This year we came 3rd place on the track, a great achievement! Well done to all our athletes who competed in their events- on track and in the field events. They were all superb, competing to the best of their abilities. A special shout out to those with medals and to some who will be going on to compete at Super Sports in a couple of weeks time!
Year 5 spent an afternoon at the beach searching for crabs and sketching the different things they found, relating to their science work.
Year 6 Retreat Day
Pupils in year 6 spent the day reflecting on all they have achieved and their talents. They looked to the future and what they hope to achieve as they move to their secondary schools. They were supported through the day by staff and students from St Thomas More.
A variety of children that learn an individual instrument showcased their skills. Well done everyone.
St Peter's Class shared their class assembly which shared the story of Pentecost when the Holy Spirit descending on the Disciples and empowered them to preach the Gospel. It's a time of joy and festivity, celebrating the beginning of the church as a diverse and multicultural family. The children sang some beautiful songs.
Here are our stars of the week who have represented our core values well through their actions of responsibility, achievement, compassion, equality, faith and respect.
OUTSTANDING MONEY
Just a remind to all our families to ensure that all outstanding monies are paid for by the end of this school term. Please log onto your School Money accounts to check for outstanding balances and ensure any outstanding clubs, trips, dinners are settled.
If you have any questions regarding this please email annemariedriscoll@sacredheart.southend.sch.uk
PUPIL ABSENCE
When a child is off sick, a phone call must be made daily to record their absence. For sickness and diarrhea, the school has a 48 hours policy from the last episode before a child can return to school.
Any medical appointments need proof of the appointment for our records.
For any other absences a leave of absence form must be completed which can be obtained from the office.
SPARE SWIMMING KITS
We urgently need spare boys swimming trunks aged 10 and above for swimming lessons plus spare towels. If anyone has anything they could donate to the school we would be most grateful.
We are also short on spare underwear for older children. Any donations can be brought to the office. Thank you for your support
COAT REMINDER – Please remember as the weather is changing to make sure your child has a coat with them and that it is clearly labelled. It is much colder today and some children came in without coats on, and were complaining they were cold in the playground.
LOST PROPERTY
Please can all parents check their child’s clothes - All items should be clearly labelled and your child needs to ensure they can identify their own property. Staff are wasting too much time searching for children’s clothing and dealing with frustrated parents.
Thank you for your co-operation.
Dear Parents/Carers
Please ensure your child is bringing in a healthy snack each day. They should NOT have chocolate, cakes or crisps, although baked savoury snacks are acceptable.
We are a Healthy School and must ensure all children are following the guidelines. Snacks must also NOT contain nuts or any type of nutty spread like Nutella or praline etc. as we are a nut free school.
Thank you for your continued support with this matter.
We would like to remind all our families using breakfast club of the importance of booking in advance. We have noticed an increase of children not booking in advance and this effects our staffing ratio.
Breakfast club (£3 per session) runs from 7:30 until the start of school and includes a light breakfast and childcare.
We also run a tea club (£6 per session) from 3:15-5:30pm which includes a light tea and childcare - again all bookings must be booked and paid for in advance. Failure to pay will result in the child not being able to attend future sessions.
All bookings must be made at the beginning of each week so we can ensure we have enough staff available. Priority will be given to children who have booked in advance and those who have not booked may not be able to stay.
If you need assistance making a booking please email annemariedriscoll@sacredheart.southend.sch.uk
We would like to remind all our families that we are a nut free school to protect some of our pupils/staff and therefore request that no items of food containing nuts are brought in. We have noticed an increasing number of children bringing in snacks and spreads containing nuts ie cereal bars, chocolate spread etc. We hope you all understand the importance that some of our community have epi pens for their allergies and we need to ensure their safety at all times. Thank you for your co-operation.

Dear Parents/carers,
Thank you so much for attending the Spring ISP meetings with your child's class teachers. Your involvement and partnership in your child's education is deeply appreciated. If you haven't yet had the opportunity to book a meeting, it's not too late! We encourage you to reach out to your child’s teacher to discuss the targets they will be working on next term. This is a wonderful way to support your child's learning and progress.
As a polite reminder, we have created a Learning Plan tailored to your child's needs and would greatly value your input. You can view and comment on the plan by visiting the following link: https://edukeyapp.com/parent/login. To access the plan, please use the code provided by your class teacher or contact our school SENCO, Mrs. White, for assistance in accessing it online.
Your feedback is important to us, and we look forward to your contributions, as we continue to work together to support your child's development.
Warm regards, Mrs White (SENCO)
