Dear God
Thank you so, so much for life and everything in it.
I know that your house is my home and I will remind myself of that everyday.
You have unconditional love for me and everyone and I can’t put into words how grateful I am for that.
I know I can always talk to you when I need it. We give thanks to you.
You are so good!
Amen
Isla J, Mary Mother of God class
Good day to you all again. I hope that you've had a good week and start to the new year.
Mrs Crabb continues to do a sterling job keeping those tuned in to social media with all manner of events going on in school. Facebook and Instagram are the places to go. Mr Smith is due to return from his paternity leave around midweek.
We enjoyed our first class assembly of the year yesterday with St Francis in Year 4 telling us about the baptism of Jesus, along with their resolutions that link to our Christian values. Next Friday, we are marking the schools' launch of Jubilee Year - led by the title "Pilgrims of Hope" - with a Mass for Years 1 to 6. At the same time, I will be representing the school at a Diocesan Mass and a conference on Racial Justice, 'Love the Stranger.'
I will be asking the School Council about a wishlist for playground games and resources in the coming week so feel free to explore some ideas with your children. Additionally, if you have scooters, lego or other items that you no longer need and would like to donate, we'd be happy to hear from you!
There is a competition for a sticker design, related to the work of Southend Foodbank, that the children will soon hear about. This may be something that they bring home to work on, unless they find time in school. The winning design will be published and used widely in the area, as well as a voucher prize.
On a related point, St Francis are the class currently collecting for the SVP Hungry Cupboard.
Enjoy your weekend and the coming week.
Mr Beazeley

Our Amazon Wishlist is live!! The idea is that friends and family of the school can donate directly to the school library. We’ll still accept preloved copies from home that you may also wish to donate. The selection of books are chosen by the staff as texts that may benefit the pupil's reading comprehension, engagement with the curriculum and foster an interest in reading. The current list is reflective of this and will update as and when donations come through. The link to our Wishlist is here.
A big thank you to those that have bought books for the school, we truly appreciate it.
Year 3 have been studying Egyptians in History and translated some Ancient Egyptian Hieroglyphics.
Year 2 visited the church and Father Graham explained to them what happens during a baptism and the symbolism behind each part of it.
This week Our Lady of Lourdes and St Bernadette's class have been looking at the history of food. We have explored food that our grandparents and parents might have had available and how it compares to what we eat today. We looked at the country of origin for fruit and vegetables and found out that the food we buy in our supermarkets comes from all over the world.
Year 2 have been making different shapes in their gymnastics lessons
Year 6 visited Southend United Football club to participate in 'Show Racism the Red Card' workshop. The pupils really engaged in the workshop and showed great understanding on how to deal with tricky situations.
Year 6 enjoyed a tour of Roots Hall during their workshop. They then got to ask questions to some of the youth coaches and ex-players, with the most interesting questions winning prizes.
Here are our stars of the week who have represented our core values well through their actions of responsibility, achievement, compassion, equality, faith and respect.
Vacuum Flasks - Please can parents ensure that any vacuum flasks bought into the school can be opened by the child - several instances have occurred when even the adults cannot open them!
UNIFORM REMINDER - The school winter uniform should be worn now with school shirt and tie. Also, please ensure your child is wearing school shoes, not boots or trainers. Please see our uniform policy if you’re not sure
COAT REMINDER – Please remember as the weather is changing to make sure your child has a coat with them and that it is clearly labelled. It is much colder today and some children came in without coats on, and were complaining they were cold in the playground.
LOST PROPERTY
Please can all parents check their child’s clothes - All items should be clearly labelled and your child needs to ensure they can identify their own property. Staff are wasting too much time searching for children’s clothing and dealing with frustrated parents.
Thank you for your co-operation.
Dear Parents/Carers
Please ensure your child is bringing in a healthy snack each day. They should NOT have chocolate, cakes or crisps, although baked savoury snacks are acceptable.
We are a Healthy School and must ensure all children are following the guidelines. Snacks must also NOT contain nuts or any type of nutty spread like Nutella or praline etc. as we are a nut free school.
Thank you for your continued support with this matter.
We would like to remind all our families using breakfast club of the importance of booking in advance. We have noticed an increase of children not booking in advance and this effects our staffing ratio.
Breakfast club (£3 per session) runs from 7:30 until the start of school and includes a light breakfast and childcare.
We also run a tea club (£6 per session) from 3:15-5:30pm which includes a light tea and childcare - again all bookings must be booked and paid for in advance. Failure to pay will result in the child not being able to attend future sessions.
All bookings must be made at the beginning of each week so we can ensure we have enough staff available. Priority will be given to children who have booked in advance and those who have not booked may not be able to stay.
If you need assistance making a booking please email annemariedriscoll@sacredheart.southend.sch.uk
We would like to remind all our families that we are a nut free school to protect some of our pupils/staff and therefore request that no items of food containing nuts are brought in. We have noticed an increasing number of children bringing in snacks and spreads containing nuts ie cereal bars, chocolate spread etc. We hope you all understand the importance that some of our community have epi pens for their allergies and we need to ensure their safety at all times. Thank you for your co-operation.
