Dear Lord
We thank those who died in wars for our freedom. If they did not fight for us the world would be very different. We appreciate everything they have done for us, and ask that you show your support and love to anyone fighting in wars now around the world.
Amen
Carla and Isabella, St Joseph’s Class
I hope that you were able to meet with your child's class teacher this week and found the time useful. It was nice to see so many of you, including those who don't often get to come into school due to work and other commitments. I also hope that you were able to see some of the lovely new displays that have gone up in the hall, atrium and elsewhere. Thank you to the staff for putting in extra hours at the end of a school day and to the pupil ambassadors who were, hopefully, able to welcome and guide you, giving up their time to provide a service to others.
As I mentioned last week, hopefully your children will have talked about and recorded some of their 'random acts of kindness', something we are encouraging the children to focus on in November as part of 'Love One Another' month. It would be lovely if you have benefited from being treated with even more kindness that might usually be the case!
We (finally!) managed to issue our new school councillors with their badges today. As representatives of their classes, they will be joining together from time to time to discuss how to make further improvements to our school. At the moment, we are asking all pupils to contribute to provide the following feedback:
STOP: what do we have or do in school that you think we should really stop doing?
START: what don't we have (or do) currently that we would really like to have (or start doing)?
CONTINUE: what is something that we do/have and really like that we wouldn't want to lose or stop doing?
As parents, you might also have views and ideas in these three areas and you are welcome to send them in and/or discuss them with your child.
Finally, another plea to see if there are any of you who might be able to help out with the School Street Scheme, particularly after school. It would be really good to get this going, even on occasional days, and we can provide 'Tea Club' for your child until a finish around 4 o'clock. Please let us know if you can help.
LEGO: Do you have any that your children don't really use any more? If so, we would be delighted to receive your donations in order to expand the range of resources available to children at lunchtimes. Thank you!
Wishing you a lovely weekend and coming week.

Our Amazon Wishlist is live!! The idea is that friends and family of the school can donate directly to the school library. We’ll still accept preloved copies from home that you may also wish to donate. The selection of books are chosen by the staff as texts that may benefit the pupil's reading comprehension, engagement with the curriculum and foster an interest in reading. The current list is reflective of this and will update as and when donations come through. The link to our Wishlist is here.
A big thank you to those that have bought books for the school, we truly appreciate it.
The Year 2 children enjoyed a local walk working on their map reading skills.
In Year 1 RE they are learning about the Christmas story and how it shows us that God sent Jesus as a sign of his love.
We all wore odd socks to mark the start of anti-bullying week.
Hot Chocolate Fridays - We celebrate pupils and staff that are superstars in all aspects of their school life.
Here are our stars of the week who have represented our core values well through their actions of responsibility, achievement, compassion, equality, faith and respect.

The Christmas Fayre is planned for Friday 13th December 5.00pm-8.00pm
On Thursday 12th December we will be having a Bring A Bottle Day in return for your child coming to school in non-uniform. Bottles can be dropped off to the atrium in the morning. Please bring in full bottles of wine/beer/spirit/fizz/bubble bath/toiletries etc.
With over 450 pupils at the school we feel sure that there are plenty of parents who can offer to help on the day. Come along and make new friends as well as raising valuable funds for the school. Even if you can only spare one hour of your time it would be very much appreciated. We need helper’s to help set up and clear up, man the stalls, help with refreshments as well as donations of cakes nearer the time. Donations of raffle prizes will also be needed so please leave at the office.
If you are able to help in any way please leave your name at the school office, thank you.
COAT REMINDER – Please remember as the weather is changing to make sure your child has a coat with them and that it is clearly labelled. It is much colder today and some children came in without coats on, and were complaining they were cold in the playground.
LOST PROPERTY
Please can all parents check their child’s clothes - All items should be clearly labelled and your child needs to ensure they can identify their own property. Staff are wasting too much time searching for children’s clothing and dealing with frustrated parents.
Thank you for your co-operation.
Appeal for underwear
We would be very grateful for any donations of good quality girls/boys underwear to use as spares. Reception class are in particular need of spares along with socks but we also need larger sizes so if anyone is able to donate please drop them off to the office.
Thank you for your support
Dear Parents/Carers
Please ensure your child is bringing in a healthy snack each day. They should NOT have chocolate, cakes or crisps, although baked savoury snacks are acceptable.
We are a Healthy School and must ensure all children are following the guidelines. Snacks must also NOT contain nuts or any type of nutty spread like Nutella or praline etc. as we are a nut free school.
Thank you for your continued support with this matter.
We would like to remind all our families using breakfast club of the importance of booking in advance. We have noticed an increase of children not booking in advance and this effects our staffing ratio.
Breakfast club bookings also includes the tea club (£9 per session) - again all bookings must be booked and paid for in advance. Failure to pay will result in the child not being able to attend future sessions.
All bookings must be made at the beginning of each week so we can ensure we have enough staff available. Priority will be given to children who have booked in advance and those who have not booked may not be able to stay.
If you need assistance making a booking please email annemariedriscoll@sacredheart.southend.sch.uk
We would like to remind all our families that we are a nut free school to protect some of our pupils/staff and therefore request that no items of food containing nuts are brought in. We have noticed an increasing number of children bringing in snacks and spreads containing nuts ie cereal bars, chocolate spread etc. We hope you all understand the importance that some of our community have epi pens for their allergies and we need to ensure their safety at all times. Thank you for your co-operation.
2024 Christmas Card Competition!
I’m writing on behalf of Bayo Alaba MP to invite your students to enter the Southend East and Rochford 2024 Christmas card competition. The winner will see their design printed on the front of Bayo’s Christmas cards, which will be sent out to organisations and businesses across the constituency.
The deadline for entry is Monday 25th November and completed entries can either be scanned and sent to bayo.alaba.mp@parliament.uk or posted to: Bayo Alaba MP, House of Commons, London, SW1A 0AA
I have attached an entry form and really look forward to seeing entries from your students! Best wishes.
We have two family open days coming up at the Essex Fire Museum. There will be opportunities for families to get involved in history trails around the museum, spot hazards in our fire safety room, enter a haunted house, partake in craft activities and a sit on our fire engines (and squirt water😊).
The museum is free entry (but visits are by appointment only……..as we are on the site of an operational fire station).
If families are interested, could they please email us at: museum@essex-fire.gov.uk and tell us the number in their party and the time they would like to arrive (we are open from 10.30am to 4.00pm). This is just because we have to keep the main station informed of numbers throughout the day.
Suggested last admissions are 2.30pm. This is just so that people have enough time to experience everything on site.
