Dear God
You are our shepherd, we are your sheep, you help us through our day.
Things might go wrong but you make it right with another day.
Thank you for everything you do for us.
Amen
Ethan R, St Joseph Class
As part of 'Love One Another' month, we have been having a 'Positive Noticing Day' today. We are making an effort to notice the good that each other does, as well as helping children and adults to focus on how they can do good for others. Hopefully, your children will have tags and wristbands, given to them by teachers and other pupils, that recognise their goodness and, hopefully, the good deeds and recognition of them can continue over the weekend and into next week.
Next week, we will be focusing on doing good for others, supporting the SVP charity by providing families in need with food and new toys. Please help if you can, as I know you have done on many occasions in the past. This is all part of our key, Christian mission as a school to educate children about the importance of supporting and showing their love for others.
Yesterday, I was with a small group of Catholic Headteachers visiting two charities in central London: 'Women At the Well' supports women who are at risk of sexual exploitation; the Cardinal Hume Centre has a main focus on supporting homeless young people from 16-25. The byline of the latter is 'Each Person Matters' which is at the heart of Sacred Heart. Visiting the charities helped me to see for real just how difficult circumstances are for some people, the harm that is caused by others who put their own needs and desires first and, more positively, the great work that is done by people with limited resources. It emphasises why our charity work is so important and how it actually helps people.
We will continue to strive to ensure our children are aware of their fortunate circumstances, relative to others, and to help, understand and not be judgemental about families in our community who have the greatest needs and disadvantages. We want to equip our children with the knowledge and skills to be successful academically, leading to the workplace, and with the values to recognise and support the needs in others. We want our boys to be respectful of women and to know what it means to be a good boyfriend, partner or husband when they get older. As dads and male role models, we have to always look at ourselves and ensure that we are bringing up our boys in the very best way.
Please continue to make the effort to do what you have always done and support local families with our collections next week.
Wishing you a lovely weekend out of the rain, with temperatures rising again.

Our Amazon Wishlist is live!! The idea is that friends and family of the school can donate directly to the school library. We’ll still accept preloved copies from home that you may also wish to donate. The selection of books are chosen by the staff as texts that may benefit the pupil's reading comprehension, engagement with the curriculum and foster an interest in reading. The current list is reflective of this and will update as and when donations come through. The link to our Wishlist is here.
A big thank you to those that have bought books for the school, we truly appreciate it.
Congratulations to our Year 6 girls football team who started their league campaign with a brilliant 4-1 win over a local school. The team are excited for their next game in the new year
The Year 4 dodgeball team were awesome in their tournament this week. They won loads of games to make the semi finals but unfortunately could not progress into the final . They finished the tournament in 4th place out of 22 local schools.
Year 1 enjoyed investigating in Science which paper was the most absorbent.
Year 3 have been learning patch and point balances in lesson. They developed these balances on apparatus.
Here are our stars of the week who have represented our core values well through their actions of responsibility, achievement, compassion, equality, faith and respect.

The Christmas Fayre is planned for Friday 13th December 5.00pm-8.00pm
On Thursday 12th December we will be having a Bring A Bottle Day in return for your child coming to school in non-uniform. Bottles can be dropped off to the atrium in the morning. Please bring in full bottles of wine/beer/spirit/fizz/bubble bath/toiletries etc.
With over 450 pupils at the school we feel sure that there are plenty of parents who can offer to help on the day. Come along and make new friends as well as raising valuable funds for the school. Even if you can only spare one hour of your time it would be very much appreciated. We need helper’s to help set up and clear up, man the stalls, help with refreshments as well as donations of cakes nearer the time. Donations of raffle prizes will also be needed so please leave at the office.
If you are able to help in any way please leave your name at the school office, thank you.
COAT REMINDER – Please remember as the weather is changing to make sure your child has a coat with them and that it is clearly labelled. It is much colder today and some children came in without coats on, and were complaining they were cold in the playground.
LOST PROPERTY
Please can all parents check their child’s clothes - All items should be clearly labelled and your child needs to ensure they can identify their own property. Staff are wasting too much time searching for children’s clothing and dealing with frustrated parents.
Thank you for your co-operation.
Dear Parents/Carers
Please ensure your child is bringing in a healthy snack each day. They should NOT have chocolate, cakes or crisps, although baked savoury snacks are acceptable.
We are a Healthy School and must ensure all children are following the guidelines. Snacks must also NOT contain nuts or any type of nutty spread like Nutella or praline etc. as we are a nut free school.
Thank you for your continued support with this matter.
We would like to remind all our families using breakfast club of the importance of booking in advance. We have noticed an increase of children not booking in advance and this effects our staffing ratio.
Breakfast club bookings also includes the tea club (£9 per session) - again all bookings must be booked and paid for in advance. Failure to pay will result in the child not being able to attend future sessions.
All bookings must be made at the beginning of each week so we can ensure we have enough staff available. Priority will be given to children who have booked in advance and those who have not booked may not be able to stay.
If you need assistance making a booking please email annemariedriscoll@sacredheart.southend.sch.uk
We would like to remind all our families that we are a nut free school to protect some of our pupils/staff and therefore request that no items of food containing nuts are brought in. We have noticed an increasing number of children bringing in snacks and spreads containing nuts ie cereal bars, chocolate spread etc. We hope you all understand the importance that some of our community have epi pens for their allergies and we need to ensure their safety at all times. Thank you for your co-operation.
2024 Christmas Card Competition!
I’m writing on behalf of Bayo Alaba MP to invite your students to enter the Southend East and Rochford 2024 Christmas card competition. The winner will see their design printed on the front of Bayo’s Christmas cards, which will be sent out to organisations and businesses across the constituency.
The deadline for entry is Monday 25th November and completed entries can either be scanned and sent to bayo.alaba.mp@parliament.uk or posted to: Bayo Alaba MP, House of Commons, London, SW1A 0AA
I have attached an entry form and really look forward to seeing entries from your students! Best wishes.
We have two family open days coming up at the Essex Fire Museum. There will be opportunities for families to get involved in history trails around the museum, spot hazards in our fire safety room, enter a haunted house, partake in craft activities and a sit on our fire engines (and squirt water😊).
The museum is free entry (but visits are by appointment only……..as we are on the site of an operational fire station).
If families are interested, could they please email us at: museum@essex-fire.gov.uk and tell us the number in their party and the time they would like to arrive (we are open from 10.30am to 4.00pm). This is just because we have to keep the main station informed of numbers throughout the day.
Suggested last admissions are 2.30pm. This is just so that people have enough time to experience everything on site.
