Value Strip

Value Strip

The subject of this project was the patterns throughout the squares. The setting of this value strip is on white paper to create a clean frame. I made it using black, fine point pen. To make it I first started with the dark side and worked my way towards the light side. I decided some of my dark squares were darker than the ones before it, so I cut out my squares and glued them onto a new white sheet of paper with a 1 inch frame. I decided to create these specific patterns because I like the geometric patterns more than the organic patterns so I tried to keep my shapes geometric. My favorite one to make was the checkered pattern. I made it using the ruler so my lines would be straight. I used lines, shapes, and space to create these patterns. The closer together the lines were the darker it appears, and the more white space I left, the lighter it looked. This zentangle value strip related to my life because I always doodle tiny patterns when I'm bored, I like to use up all the space on my paper with zentangles so I enjoyed this project. To make it better I would want to make a more dramatic difference between the shapes so the shades can be seen clearly.
