Hand with Rubber Band

3 Views of a Shoe

Hand with Rubber Band: The subject of my creation is my hand with a rubber band twisted around the fingers. To make this drawing I first used a light H pencil to sketch out the shape of the hand, then I sketched the details and made it more realistic. After I had the outline down, I went over all of it with a dark 2B pencil. Next I thickened and darkened my lines with a 6B pencil, but was careful not to create smudges. I decided to put my hand in this position because this is the sign language for love and it is my favorite hand signal. I also wanted it to be slightly difficult for me to draw. The techniques I used to draw my hand were leading lines and using negative space to figure out shapes. I used leading lines to get the basic size and shape of my hand and then went from there to perfect them. By using negative space I could see the outline of my hand easier. If drawing the shape of my hand wasn't working I would try drawing the space around it instead. My project evolved to become darker because originally it was really light. I didn't realize how dark everyone else's drawing were until we put them on the wall and compared them. The meaning behind my drawing is Love because the signal I am showing means Love. It related to my life because I use this sign a lot and I believe love should be spread everywhere. I think to make my drawing better I could make my lines even darker and thicker.

3 Views of a Shoe: The subject of this drawing is my sneaker. The setting was on a table top. To make this drawing it was pretty much the same as drawing my hand. I sketched the general shape of my shoe with an H pencil to get the size and proportions right. Then I went in with a darker pencil (2B and 6B) to darken the lines and make them more confident and smooth. I chose to create this specific artwork because this was the shoe I had on the day we had to draw our shoes. They are my favorite shoes. The techniques I used to draw my hand were leading lines and using negative space to figure out shapes. These techniques helped me get my shoe to look realistic. My project evolved to become darker and darker as I used different pencils and went over my lines. It applies to my own life because these are my shoes and I think a person's shoes can tell a lot about them. To make my drawing better I could darken my lines more like I said before, to make it look more confident.
