I’m calling this project, Pom Pom Polar Bears because that is the material and subject of this sculpture. The subject is a father and a baby polar bear. I chose to create this specific work because I knew I wanted to do an animal and I really like polar bears because I like how they are white so I decided on this. I wanted to do more than just one polar bear so I decided to do both a father and a baby. For materials, I used newspaper and tap for the base, white spray paint, cotton palls, and beads. I used a variety of techniques and methods including crumpling up the newspaper in balls to tape together to make the shape of the polar bear. While creating this work, I paid close attention to making the base tight and study so it can stand on it's own and is durable. I used a lot of tape to ensure this. Then I used white spray paint to cover the entire thing so it will give an all white allusion and there won't be any blue painters tape sticking out. To add interest to my composition, purple beads as the eyes of the polar bears instead of black. I thought this was a fun and unexpected pop of color. I like the way the cotton balls make it look lumpy and fluffy and I am proud of how durable it is (my dad was throwing it around and snuggling with it at home!) However, I struggled with getting cotton balls in all the cracks and I ended up with some burns from the hot glue gun.
