Surrealist Painting

This is a painting of my boat Sara Jane, sailing on space with a sunset in the background. To make this painting I started with the background and worked my way up with the details in the foreground. It took me a while to get space and the sunset looking right so I painted over it a lot. I used a sponge to blend the colors and that helped a lot. I chose to make this painting because I wanted to make it for my dad because he is selling Sara Jane and he's really sad about it. I used movement in the sky with the clouds, pattern in space with the splatter painted stars, and balance by using the rule of thirds when I put Sara Jane to the left of the midline. It evolved because I decided not to paint the bridge onto the painting because I thought it wouldn't work with the picture. This relates to my life because it's a picture of my boat.
