Leaves

The subject of my creation is the negative space between the outlines of the leaves. The setting is fall colored ink drips. To make this project I used an H pencil to outline the leaves, then went over it in a fine point sharpie. Next I painted the negative space in orangey-yellow watercolor to give it a fall color background. Then I taped the outlines of the leaves so no ink would get on them and dripped fall colors of ink down the paper. I chose to do drips of ink because I wanted it to have a fall theme to it and when I think of fall I think of these colors and rain. The drips of ink look like rain drops. The principles of design I used in this project was movement with the drips of ink, unity with the same color scheme, and pattern with the shape of the ink drips. My project evolved from being just plain water colors, to having a pattern and different colors and depth to it with the ink. At first I wanted to do splatter paint, but then I changed my mind because I thought the look of the drips of ink would relate to rain and fall weather more. The meaning of my artwork is to symbolize the season of autumn with the outline of fallen leaves, orange, red, green, earthy colors, and rain drops. It relates to my life because I love fall, it's my favorite season and this project got me excited for the weather! Something I wish I could've done better was make sure the ink didn't drip into the outline of the leaves. I was really disappointed when I took up the tape and there were a few spots where the ink had slipped underneath. It only happened in a few spots, and I was able to fix it with some white paint. In the future I will make sure the tape is stuck down enough. I will also be careful taking it off because I ripped some of my paper when I took it off.
