RAHS Music Department Prepared for Holiday Concert

The Reedsburg Area High School music department will present its annual holiday concert this Sunday, Dec. 14, at 2:00 p.m. at the CAL Center. The event will feature performances by the school’s band, choir, and orchestra, showcasing months of preparation.
Choir director Kristen Sporakowski said the performance will feature the Chorale, Coro Belle, and Chamber Singers.
“We will present a variety of Winter Music and Holiday Music. Some will be traditional, and some will be new to our audience,” Sporakowski said.
Sporakowski acknowledged the tight schedule leading up to the event, noting the department recently finished an October concert and the November musical, Newsies.
“Leaning into the holiday concert is always a time crunch... [but] I do have confidence that the students are working diligently and preparing for this audience,” she said. “The holiday concert is one of my favorite concerts of the year. I love holiday music, and passing along traditions to each new class has become a favorite teaching moment of mine.”
Band director Scott Bruer expressed similar confidence in the band's readiness, citing successful rehearsals.
“I enjoy the piece ‘Christmas in the Round’ because it allows sections in the band to be featured,” Bruer said. “I believe music plays a huge role during the holidays, and without it the season wouldn’t be the same.”
The concert will also feature collaboration between the ensembles. Choir member Kallie Adams ‘28. noted that student musicians from the band and orchestra often accompany the vocalists to enhance the performance.
Adams highlighted a specific piece the choir will perform called “Oba Se Je,” a traditional Nigerian folk song.
“It translates to ‘Here Comes the King.’ I enjoy this song because it’s an a cappella piece, meaning we perform it solely by singing,” Adams said. “Overall, I feel confident and prepared for our concert. I am most excited to see the other choir ensembles' song selections, and I'll be staying for all three concerts.”
