The countdown to Homecoming has begun! Reedsburg Area High School is set to show its Beaver pride during Spirit Week, running from Tuesday, October 7, through Friday, October 10. The week is packed with themed dress-up days and class competitions, all leading up to the Homecoming football game and the Galaxy-themed dance on Saturday, October 11.
"Student Council begins preparing for Homecoming in the spring, before school even lets out." said Tara Olson, Faculty Advisor for Student Council.
Here is everything you need to know to participate.
This Year's Dress-Up Themes
With no school on Monday, October 6, students will have four days to earn points for their class. This year features a “High vs. Low” point system for each theme, rewarding students who choose the more challenging "high" option.
Tuesday, Oct. 7: Hawaiian Day (High) vs. Pirate Day (Low)
Wednesday, Oct. 8: Sparkle Day (High) vs. Neon Day (Low)
Thursday, Oct. 9: Dress Like a Teacher Day (High) vs. Pajama Day (Low)
Friday, Oct. 10: Class Colors Day (Shortened 8-period Day)
"It's always amazing to see the whole student body come together and show their school spirit," said Olson.
How the Competition Works
Student Council volunteers will visit third-hour classes each day to tally the number of students participating in the themes. The graduating class with the most points at the end of the week will be crowned the winner during the pep rally on Friday.
"I’m really hoping students show some participation this year," said Julia Rohweder, [Student Council member/’26]. "In years past, I feel like we’ve lost the ‘spirit’ in spirit week."
Week's Highlights
Lunch Games:
During A and B lunches, students will have the opportunity to participate in competitive games to earn more points for their graduating class. These games include;
Tuesday: Four Corners
Wednesday: Rock, Paper, Scissors
Thursday: Marshmallow Toss
Friday: Kahoot
After School Games/Events and Times:
Monday: Powder Puff (7-9pm)
Tuesday: Boys Volleyball (End of Girls VB match, no specific end time)
Friday: Home Varsity Football Game VS. Baraboo (7pm)
"Our members have been working really hard to make this Homecoming memorable, and I'm especially excited for the pep assembly," said Olson.
Friday Pep Rally: The week’s events culminate in a school-wide pep rally on Friday. "I think the assembly is the best part of spirit week," Rohweder said. "Once things start to get competitive between the grades, you won’t find anyone backing down. The scooter race was always entertaining to watch." For now, the student council has not yet released a schedule for the assembly.
Pep Rally Games: This year, the student council has a lot of fun activities planned for us during the pep rally. These games include Gaga Ball, Tug of War, Hungry Hungry Hippo, Jousting, Musical Chairs, and Human knot/human pyramid. "My favorite part about the assembly in the past was sitting with friends and watching the games." Abigaile Favia ‘27
Homecoming Football Game: Show your Beaver pride at the Homecoming game as they face off against Sparta on Friday night by wearing the school colors, blue and white.
"Hopefully there will be a victory for the football game. A victory kicks off a fun weekend" said Social Studies teacher, Mr. Kevin Runde
'Galaxy' Homecoming Dance:
The week concludes with the Homecoming dance on Saturday, Oct. 11. For the "Galaxy" theme, Rohweder suggests students wear navy, purple, black, or anything sparkly to "make the theme come full circle." This year Homecoming is October 11th at 8pm and goes until 11pm. To get in you will need your school issued ID and $10.
Homecoming Court Voting
Voting for your class’s homecoming court representatives, as well as the Senior Homecoming King and Queen, will take place during spirit week. A Google Form ballot will be sent to your school email. The King and Queen will be crowned at the dance at 9:30 p.m.
