Headline: Commons Renovation Slated to Bring Modern ‘Touch’ to School History

Walking down the halls of RAHS, students may have noticed a glaring change: the trophies and athlete plaques are missing.
The empty cases are not a sign that history has been lost here at the high school but rather that it is being upgraded. As part of the successful district referendum from November, 2024—which also funded the Innovation Center, Shop and Agriculture Department improvements—the Commons, gym, and CAL Center entrances are also undergoing remodeling.
According to Activities Director Aaron May, the project, which will be completed this summer, aims to "preserve memories in a more modern way."
The centerpiece of the athletic display renovation is a high-tech upgrade to how the school displays its history. May said a new interactive touch screen will replace the current display area.
"We can share not just our trophies but photos of our teams, performing arts, and clubs," May said. "Let us celebrate the successes of our student groups!"
The digital archive will allow current students to see generations of athletes before them, and allow alumni to search for old photos and friends.
For students wondering where the physical history has gone—including the Hall of Fame plaques featuring familiar faces like Mrs. Matthews and Mr. Pottinger—the items are safe in storage.
When the project is complete, May said the physical trophies will return to the case. However, the Hall of Fame wall will have a new home. It is being relocated to the hallway near the small gym leading to the fitness center.
While the method of display is changing, the philosophy behind it remains the same. May emphasized that seeing the records of those who came before serves as a reminder that excellence is a standard met by people "exactly like" the current student body.
"History provides the context for our current community," May said. "By honoring these memories in a special way, we keep the spirit of Reedsburg alive, ensuring that the values of today’s students are rooted in a proud and meaningful heritage.”
This is the current trophy case at RAHS, below is a tentative floorplan for the new trophy case; plans are subject to change.
