Veteran's Day Assembly

 RAHS to Honor Veterans with Assembly, Music

Reedsburg Area High School will pause to honor military veterans with its annual Veterans Day assembly on Tuesday, November 11, in the gym. The ceremony, running from 10:10 to 10:35 a.m., will bring students together with community veterans to recognize their service.

The event is a chance for the entire school to join with local veterans in a shared moment of respect. "I think it’s awesome that we bring the student body and the veterans of our community to recognize and honor those who have served in our military,” said Mr. Scott Bruer, the RAHS Band Director.

 A central part of the ceremony will be a combined performance by the band and choir of the "Armed Forces Salute," a medley of the anthems for the Army, Coast Guard, Marine Corps, Air Force, and Navy. "I enjoy teaching these songs because many students do not know them," said choir director Ms. Kristen Sporakowski. "It is very important to continue the tradition of our Veteran's Day ceremony, thus ensuring that the connection of honoring those who have served is never forgotten.”

 That connection to service is deeply personal for some students. For senior Lucas Philips, who plans to enlist in the Marines after graduation, the assembly has taken on a new meaning. “The Veteran's Day service has always been important to me because I have family members that served in the military," Philips said. "However, this year it is more important because I'm going to be serving and honoring the legacy of the men and women that served before me.”

The assembly, which will also feature a 21-gun salute from visiting veterans, continues to be a meaningful tradition for students and staff alike.
