On Main Street in Reedsburg, a vibrant pink storefront stands out against the historic brickwork. This is the Busy Bee Bakehouse, the newest venture from Bee (Brittany) and Bryan Golden. While the shop officially opened its doors on November 1st, the journey to this local hotspot was anything but traditional.
For Bee, opening a bakery wasn't a lifelong dream. Five years ago, the couple bought a farm and operated a construction company. Bee’s initial vision was a quiet farm life with a small roadside stand. However, her baking—using fresh, local ingredients and flour—quickly "blew up" at local farmers' markets.
The demand was so high that she couldn't stay at the markets for more than a few hours without selling out. "My husband manifested it, really," Bee says. "He kept saying, 'we need a bakery,' and here we are." Bryan, who spent his life in construction, is now a full partner in the kitchen, mastering the art of the sourdough alongside Bee.
The motivation behind the bakery’s health-conscious menu is deeply personal. After discovering their son was sensitive to artificial dyes and flavors, Bee began mastering dye-free and additive-free recipes. She realized she could be the person to provide these treats for other families who were tired of saying "no" to their children.
"Food is my love language," Bee explains. This dedication is most evident in their signature sourdough, which Bee treats as a living thing. She jokingly warns people not to bring negative energy around her sourdough, insisting that the bread can absorb the baker's mood—coming out "ugly" if she’s frustrated, but "gorgeous" when baked with love.
The "Busy Bee" name has followed Bee through many businesses, including a construction company, the farm, and even a taxi service. Now, it represents what Bee calls a "one-stop shop" for Reedsburg. Beyond their 300 weekly loaves of bread, the Goldens offer:
Local maple syrup and honey.
Local meats, cheeses, and farm-fresh eggs.
Homemade soups based on Bee’s grandmother’s secret recipes.
Wholesale bread for other area favorites, including Bella Goose in the Dells.
The "farm" part of their business is just as active as the "bakehouse." The Goldens raise a variety of "weirdo animals," as Bee calls them. This includes four goats (with more babies expected in February), chickens, cows, and even rare Mangalista pigs—a breed known for having curly hair that looks like wool.
These animals aren't just for the farm; they are part of the business plan. The Goldens have hosted "Painting with Baby Animals" classes and a "Root Beer Floats with Baby Goats" event that drew over 65 people.
While the shop is currently a "to-go" style location, the Goldens are working toward becoming a full community hub. They have already hosted unique events like a "sound bath" with yoga mats and pillows. A Valentines Day card making party on Monday, Feb. 9 from 3-6 p.m. is their first planned event of 2026.
"I wish that other buildings got turned into something fun for the kids, not just bars," Bee says. With plans for a full brunch menu and expanded outdoor seating this spring, the Busy Bee Bakehouse is well on its way to providing Reedsburg with exactly that—a pink, vibrant, and healthy place for the whole community to gather.
