New ‘Cache’ Supply Closet Opens to Support RAHS Students

Reedsburg Area High School has launched a new initiative to ensure every student has the essential supplies they need to succeed in the classroom.
Known as "The Cache," the new resource is a student-focused supply closet stocked with clothing, hygiene products, and other necessities. The program’s philosophy is rooted in the idea that basic needs must be met before effective learning can occur.
The project was developed by School Social Worker Tara Wedel, Study Hall Teacher Dana Newton, and Science Teacher Katie Huber. Modeled after the Webb Care Closet at the middle school, The Cache is specifically tailored to address the direct needs of the high school population.
"If you don't feel your best, you can not be your best," said Newton. "We are here for you!"
Huber said the program’s name draws inspiration from the school mascot, Herbie Beaver. Just as beavers in nature exhibit "caching" behaviors—storing food and supplies for later use—Huber saidThe Cache is designed as a stockpile of resources for RAHS Beavers.
Through a combination of public and student donations, the closet offers a wide range of personal hygiene items, including toothpaste, toothbrushes, deodorant, body wash, hair care, and feminine hygiene products. In addition to toiletries, The Cache provides clothing in sizes ranging from shirts and pants to shoes and underwear. Newton and Huber noted there is a particular abundance of "cozy clothes" to help students feel comfortable.
To maximize accessibility and privacy, The Cache operates out of two separate locations within RAHS. The first is located in Mrs. Huber’s back storage room in the science wing, which is open during FLEX, passing times, and before or after school.
A second stock is located in the Commons under one of the staircases. Students can see Newton or Wedel to access this location.
Huber emphasized that all students are welcome to utilize The Cache for any school or home needs. The goal is to create a welcoming environment that students can use as frequently as necessary.
As The Cache establishes itself, it is also creating service opportunities. Students interested in organizing, cleaning, and taking inventory of supplies can earn volunteer hours. Donations of hygiene essentials and gently used clothing in all sizes are welcome to keep the shelves stocked.
