IB Registration
There are many options and pathways for entry into WHSIB. We are an open enrollment program and encourage all students from a range of educational backgrounds to register for IB courses. Students interested in pursuing an IB Diploma must begin their IB pathway in 9th grade by registering for IB Prep Human Geography (HUGS) and AP US History or IB Prep US History in 10th grade. This set of courses develops the IB Philosophy and Approaches to Learning that prepare students for the Diploma Programme in 11th and 12th grades.
Coming from a Westwood feeder middle school? Students coming from Grisham and Canyon Vista middle schools have many opportunities to learn about the IB program at Westwood. We host parent and student sessions during the school year to show a glimpse of student activity and the rich curriculum we offer. The IB Coordinator works closely with Westwood counselors to support our IB prep students as they navigate through IB Prep.
Coming from another campus in RRISD? Usually students who attend Westwood reside in the Westwood attendance zone. If you wish to transfer to Westwood to participate in the IB Diploma Programme, please visit the RRISD Transfer website for more information.
*Once the transfer is approved, Westwood will contact your family for a counseling appointment.
New to the district? Students who are moving from outside the district, state, or country find a welcoming home in the IB student community. Parents should note that we cannot evaluate transcripts until you have registered and met with a counselor on the Westwood campus. Students transferring from other international and IB schools may be able to begin the IB pathway as late as 11th grade depending on the coursework completed at the other school.
Please contact the Westwood registrar for more answers to your registration questions.
