Every year the IB Diploma candidates must complete the Extended Essay (EE). This is a 4,000 word research paper written in an IB subject of their choice. Westwood High School students begin the Extended Essay process midway through the junior year, with final submission of their paper during the fall semester of the senior year. Throughout the writing of this paper, each student is paired with an EE Subject Coordinator and teacher supervisor who helps them design and direct their paper to meet the required IB criteria. The Extended Essay is one of the most essential tools the students take with them as they prepare for the college experience.
WHS IB EE Deadlines can be seen on the WHS IB DP Calendar on the homepage.

Creativity, action, service (CAS) is at the heart of the Diploma Programme. It is one of the three essential elements in every student’s Diploma Programme experience. It involves students in a range of activities alongside their academic studies throughout the Diploma Programme. The three strands of CAS, which are often interwoven with particular activities, are characterized as follows.
Please visit our CAS website for more information about CAS at Westwood.
IB requires that students meet 7 learning outcomes
Students must complete 6 experiences (shorter) and 1 project (longer) with 3 reflections each
Students must be engaged in CAS throughout the 2 years in the IB Program but CAS cannot begin until August of junior year
Westwood uses ManageBac for CAS Portfolios (students are provided with a login)
Students will meet with Mrs. Key while in the program to review their CAS Portfolio and progress
