IB Course Plans, Pathways by Group, Course and Teacher Information

Course Plan Information and Resources

• SL courses are typically one year and can be taken junior year or senior year.  Please remember that only 2 SL courses can be completed during junior year.   If the SL course is a two year course, it will say 2 year SL next to it)

• HL courses are two year courses and must be taken junior and senior year.  Exams for HL courses will be in May of senior year.

Group 1: Studies on Language and Literature

• IB Course Offerings:

  • SL Literature (2 year SL)

  • HL Literature (most students complete HL Literature because students must take IB Literature in both 11th and 12th grades; the course is the same whether students choose to SL or HL)

Group 2: Language Acquisition

• IB Course Offerings:

  • Spanish:

    • Spanish SL (from Spanish IV or V)

    • Spanish HL (from Spanish V as a senior)

  • Chinese:

    • Chinese SL (from Chinese IV or V)

    • Chinese HL (from Chinese V as a senior)*

  • German:

    • German SL (from German IV or V)

    • German HL (from German V as a senior)

  • French:

    • French SL (from French IV or V)

    • French HL (from French V as a senior)

Group 3: Individuals and Societies

• IB Course Offerings:

  • IB History SL

  • IB History HL (for class of 2026 if course makes)

  • IB Economics SL (one year course; many students split around TOK so take Economics fall of junior year and spring of senior year with exam in May of 2022)

  • IB Psychology SL

Group 4: Sciences

• IB Course Offerings:

  • IB Biology HL

  • IB Biology SL

  • IB Chemistry HL

  • IB Chemistry SL

  • IB Physics HL

  • IB Physics SL (two year SL)

  • IB Sports, Exercise, and Health Science HL

  • IB Sports, Exercise, and Health Science SL

  • IB Computer Science HL (*this does not meet the Texas High School graduation requirement of 4 years of science but does count for IB Group 4)

  • IB Computer Science SL (*this does not meet the Texas High School graduation requirement of 4 years of science but does count for IB Group 4)

Group 5: Mathematics

• IB Course Offerings:

  • IB Applications and Interpretation SL (can test from Applications 3)

  • IB Analysis and Approaches HL (must take IB Prep Analysis 2 and Analysis 3; will test after Analysis 3)

    • can test from Analysis 4 (Multivariable Calculus) if accelerated in math

  • IB Analysis and Approaches SL (can test from IB Prep Analysis 2)

  • Students should follow the math pathways provided in more detail on the Group 5 page

Group 6: The Arts or an IB Elective from Groups 2, 3 or 4

• IB Course Offerings:

  • IB Music SL (one year, IB components completed in weekly flex session and students remain in orchestra, band or choir block)

  • IB Theater HL (prerequisites: Theatre Production II: Children's Theatre and Comedy/Improvisation)

  • IB Theater SL (two year SL)  (prerequisites: Theatre Production II: Children's Theatre and Comedy/Improvisation)

  • IB Dance SL (two year SL) (check back for prerequisites and structure of course)

  • IB Visual Arts HL (prerequisite: Art 1)

  • IB Visual Arts SL (prerequisite: Art 1)

• OR can take an IB Elective from Groups 2, 3, or 4.  Many students use IB Computer Science (Group 4) as their IB Elective.
