The new Westwood IB website is at the domain
We cover all IB themes: Identities, Experiences, Human Ingenuity, Social Organization and Sharing the Planet.
The IB prescribed themes for Spanish HL are: Identities, Experiences, Human Ingenuity, Social Organization and Sharing the planet. We study these themes as they pertain to our literary works (language and identity, believes and values, customs and traditions, migration, social relationships, peace and conflict, etc.).
Because the Spanish HL curriculum requires students to read works of literature originally written in the target language, at Westwood the class is taught in conjunction with the AP Literature class. Both programs support each other and many of our IB students end up taking the AP Literature examination at the end of they year.
The class is taught in the target language. It provides students with different perspectives of the hispanic culture, political and social issues nurturing students curiosity, building their critical thinking and their ability to solve complex problems as global citizens.
2-3 hours a week.
Homework will usually take between 20-30 minutes.
The very high expectations that students have for themselves as well as the appreciation they have to the Spanish language.
I love to provide students with current information about the hispanic culture to give them a distinctive advantage to build their critical thinking skills and form their own opinion.
The Spanish IB HL course aligns with the Spanish AP Literature course.
Spanish Language B themes and AP themes are intertwined. We prepare students for both exams. Most of our students successfully take both the AP and IB exams every year.
