9th and 10th graders are served by their alpha counselor and Mrs. Key and the counselors work closely together. Unfortunately, in order to be as responsive as possible, Mrs. Key cannot schedule one on one meetings with each family. Students involved in IB represents 25-30% of the student population at Westwood.
Please review this website and email your questions to Mrs. Key. That will ensure the timeliest response for the greatest number of families possible. Also, students are welcome to stop by Mrs. Key's office during the day to ask questions.
IB is open to all students who have an interest in the program and are lifelong learners. The single most important trait to have it work ethic as students will need to stay on top of their assignments and coursework. Students who love to apply what they're learning, problem solve, ask questions and work collaboratively will thrive in the IB Program.
Absolutely, IB fosters balance in our students. With careful planning and maybe some ACC courses, students can usually fit in all of the courses they'd like to take. Our IB music and dance offerings also open up more options for our IB students.
My recommendation is that students begin their IB course plans early in order to have the best chance to fit everything in.

On each course specific page, teachers have provided guidance as to what AP exams your students will be prepared for from their IB courses and how much supplementary studying will need to happen, if any.
Yes, IB students can also take AP classes if their schedule allows. AP students cannot take IB classes.
All IB Prep and IB courses must be taken at Westwood by IB trained teachers. Students need to follow the LOTE and Math pathways that they are on (see specific pathway information on this website). US History must also be taken at Westwood.
Some good courses to take at ACC would be: Economics (semester, non-IB class), Government (graduation requirement), Personal Financial Literacy, etc. Your counselor can help you choose courses that will not interfere with your IB Pathways.
