Under normal circumstances, Dauntless crew-members are requested not to be armed with real weapons. The Officers of the Dauntless recognise that crew-members may have a legal right to carry and bear arms, but we hope that all members of the crew will choose not to do so while attending Dauntless events for the safety of all in attendance.
"Real weapons", in this context, refers to firearms, bladed weapons (swords, battle-axes, shiruken, knives with blades longer than 9cm etc), blunt weapons (batons, truncheons etc) and stun weapons (tasers, tear-gas sprays etc). Should you feel the need to arm yourself during normal Dauntless events, please discuss your intentions with the Mission Commander beforehand to ensure that all necessary precautions can be taken.
Acceptable weapon-like items that Dauntless crew-members are likely to equip themselves with without prior approval may include simulation weapons (paintball or laser-tag guns, "boffer" LARP foam melee weapons etc), tools (pocket knives, power tools etc) or decorative weapon replicas. While the former two will be dictated by mission in question, the latter are required to conform to Dauntless uniform standards.
Dauntless crew-members are permitted to adorn their Class B and Class C uniforms with non-functioning replicas of weapons as seen in the Star Trek series and films. Should you wish to include a replica weapon with your uniform, it should be included as part of the CAUC evaluation to ensure that it conforms to the appropriate standards.
There are two weapons that will pass muster under CAUC regulations. These are the standard Starfleet sidearm weapons. Which weapon you select is determined by the Department in which you serve. It is your responsibility to ensure that the weapon you acquire is correct and sufficiently accurate that it would be instantly recognisable. The weapons used are those that were in use circa 2375 in the Star Trek television series and films.
Standard decorative sidearm.
Worn: Concealed in a pocket or a small holster attached to a pistol belt. The phaser must be holstered in such a way that it cannot be seen.
Decorative sidearm for Security Department.
Worn: In a black holster attached to a black pistol belt. While holstered, the phaser should be oriented horizontally, with the controls facing outward, and the grip pointing forward.
Dauntless crew-members may request permission to, or be requested to, carry or bear certain other weapon replicas for ceremonial purposes. Crew-members may request permission to carry any non-functional weapon replica while in uniform, but will be required to make a case for why such permission should be granted by the mission commander.
Under certain circumstances, however, crew-members may be requested to carry a ceremonial weapon. Situations that may call for this could be an honour guard, or for the creation of promotional material for the ship.
Unless otherwise specified, the default ceremonial weapon is the Type III Phaser Compression Rifle as used in 2375 in the Star Trek television series and films.
Should you be called upon to carry such a weapon for ceremonial reasons, you will likely be issued one. However, it would be advantageous for you to already own one to bring with you. If you are providing your own rifle, it should be submitted to the Mission Commander for inspection beforehand, to ensure that it meets the necessary accuracy and safety requirements.
