Cadets

Members under the age of 18 are called "Cadets".

To begin with, Cadets have three of their own ranks. After being promoted through the Cadet ranks, Cadets become "Acting Officers".

Upon turning 18, Cadets have the option to become full Officers, or to switch to the equivalent Enlisted ranks.

All new Cadets are assigned the rank of Cadet 3rd Class (Grade C-1). From there, the requirements for promotion are as follows:

After attaining the rank of Cadet First Class, Cadets move into the Commissioned Officers rank system and must meet those criteria for further promotions, with one exception: Cadets are only granted those ranks in an "Acting" capacity.

Although Cadets holding Acting Officer ranks are entitled to wear the rank insignia for the appropriate rank, they are still officially Cadets, and are required to wear the correct Cadet uniform.

After Turning 18

When a Cadet turns 18, he/she may keep his/her Acting Officer rank for 100 days from their 18th birthday. If, before the end of that period, the Cadet passes the Officers Training School course at STARFLEET Academy, he/she will be permitted to keep their Acting rank as a permanent rank.

If the Cadet does not complete the OTS exam before the end of that period, he/she will instead receive the equivalent Enlisted rank.
